Nose Hair Trimmer FAQ
What
are some general tips for using my nose hair
trimmer?
Even though nose hair trimmers are simple to use, it helps to
follow some common sense advice.
- Always make sure your nose is clean. Blow your nose
beforehand if needed. This will prevent clogs, and of
course improves hygiene.
- Make sure you trim in a well lit area. Some
trimmers help by coming with attached lights, and some
people even like to use flashlights.
- Trim in front of a mirror, or use an extra hand mirror.
The better you can see your hair, the more efficiently you will be
able to cut it.
What are some
safety tips when trimming nose hair?
Using a nose hair trimmer is very safe, but there are many
things you can do to minimize any adverse effects.
- Don't jam the trimmer too far into your nose or ear. It
is especially important not to put your trimmer deep in your ear,
as you can damage your ear drum. Stick with the outer
ear.
- Never use scissors or tweezers. It's too easy to cut
oneself with scissors. Plucking, on the other hand, is a very
bad idea. Nose hair is not meant to be plucked like other
hair, and it's very easy to create small tears in nasal
membranes. This can easily lead to scarring or
infections.
- Keep your trimmer clean. Running it under warm water will
help prevent bacteria growth.
- Using a nose hair trimmer should never be painful. If you
are using a model that hurts, it is probably of a low quality, and
you should find a new one as quickly as possible.
How do different models of nose hair trimmers
vary?
There are a large amount of
trimmers on the market, as you can see in our product guide.
They come in many different styles and can have different
accessories.
- Most are run on batteries. They
usually use one AA battery, though its possible to find models
that use two AA or use a AAA. Other types are manually
powered. These are squeezed with one hand and guided by
another.
- Every trimmer looks slightly
different. While they usually have the same general shape,
some are naturally wider or taller. Some will have a more
comfortable grip and will be easier to use.
- Nose hair trimmers will contain
different accessories. Some can have LED lights or
vacuums. Others will contain removable head
attachments. Some attachments will be better at certain
functions, like trimming eyebrow or facial hair.
- There's a big range in price
and quality. But beware that the more expensive model is not
always better. Be careful to check our trimmer
reviews.
Why do people
have nose and ear hair?
Everyone has at least some nose hair. As people age, they
tend to grow more and longer nose hairs, and many people will have
ear hair too. The growth of this hair is actually tied to the
loss of the hormone estrogen, which is thought of as a female
hormone, but is actually found in men as well.
Since lower levels of estrogen are found in men, they tend to have
more nose and ear hair.
Nose and ear hair can serve a biological function. They
help filter ultra fine particles. However, there is no danger
in trimming your visible nose hair. Everyone has small hairs
called cilia in their nasal passages, which function as
filters. Therefore, there is no risk in trimming nasal
hair. Likewise, its safe to trim ear hair, and
indeed many people have none to begin with.
